Torch RelayEvery year since 1944 Maccabi World Union and the Maccabi Tzair Youth Movement in Israel conduct a traditional torch relay that takes place during Chanukah. The Torch is lit up at the graves of the Maccabees in Israel, at the presence of Maccabi and public leaders accompanied by various Israeli dignitaries. From there it travels throughout Israel and the Diaspora symbolizing the spiritual reunion of the Jewish People. The Torch Relay expresses the Maccabi Movements values: the continuity of the Jewish People, the love for Israel, freedom and independence. |
