International Holocaust Remembrance Day
- January 27, 2012

Candle

January 27, 2012 marks the 67th return of the day on which the Red Army liberated the last survivors of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp in Poland.

Auschwitz-Birkenau was the largest extermination camp of the Nazi regime.

More than 2,5 million Jews were murdered in this camp.

We, the descendants, should never forget them. Our message has to pass to all coming generations to remember and always to be alert. NEVER AGAIN.

In the time of the worrying increase of old and new anti-Semitism, we the Maccabim, should stay united and continue educating our youth to be proud of their Jewishness.

We will never recover from the tragedy of the Holocaust, but our activity for the Jewish Peoplehood and the centrality of the State of Israel are the very embodiment of Jewish continuity.

Message from Rabbi Carlos Tapiero - Hanukah 2011

kinara90

Dear friends,

In his speech at the UN General Assembly this year, Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas (aka "Abu Mazen") denied the ancient Jewish presence and connection to the Land of Israel. While violating the PA's international agreements by refusing to negotiate with Israel and trying to fast-track to Palestinian statehood, Abbas in New York greeted the world "from Palestine, the Land of the Prophet Muhammad and Jesus Christ."

Message from the EMC Executive - 13th European Maccabi Games

aaaaa

Maccabim, Friends!

The 13th European Maccabi Games in Vienna ended with an outstanding Closing Ceremony on July 12, 2011. We can look back at another milestone in the glorious history of our Maccabi Movement. The EMG had all aspects of our Maccabi ideology that we strive for — Jewish Sports, Jewish Education, cultural and Zionist programs, and Jewish values. Foremost we proved that even though we came to Vienna from all the corners of the globe, our Jewish roots and identity are the bond between us, making ALL of us a part of the great Maccabi family.

We shared our experience with representatives from 37 countries. We competed in 17 sports. Not all of you went home with a medal around your neck, but with or without a medal being part of this Jewish experience made us all winners. We all went home as proud Jews, as great representatives of our people.

The 13th EMG were organized in an outstanding manner, Our thanks go again and again to the Organizing Committee of the Games, the professional staff and all the wonderful volunteers. We will keep these Games in our memories as an unforgettable week and as another big step to our Jewish continuity.

Maccabi chai!

Community Fun Run - Maccabi Hungary

Logo_with_date_and_maccabi

For the first year, a number of important charities have teamed up to organize a major cross communal fundraising charity event called the FunRun. The event is managed by Maccabi VAC Hungary and the following charities are presently involved: Bálint Ház, Beit Shalom, EMIH, Israeli Cultural Institute, Jaffe, Jewish Meeting Point, Maccabi VAC Hungary, Manora and Misko Fundation.

You can read more about all of these organizations by clicking here.

The budget of the FunRun was shared among the participated organizations. Choosing a charity during your registration means that the chosen one will receive your registration fee directly. Please join us on Sunday, 5th June 2011 at the Old Jewish Quarter of Budapest to enjoy our fabulous FunRun event and the JUDAFEST FESTIVAL for kids and families to complete either 1km, 5km or 10km course in order to raise money for your chosen charity. We can promise that you and your family will have a tremendously rewarding day and meet like-minded people who are raising much-needed funds for the outstanding communal organizations involved.

The Community Fun Run unites and engages the entire community, young and old, serious runner to casual stroller. All fitness levels are welcome and the event is aimed at adults, kids and families who can opt for the traditional 5km or 10km course or the 1km course. This 1km shorter route means that ABSOLUTELY ANYBODY can participate, from the youngest to the oldest – at any fitness level. The 5km run is a more challenging but fun option where you can walk, jog, run, push a buggy or even participate hopping in fancy dress! The 10km course is generally recommended for the more serious runner. Whatever your reason for getting involved, do please participate. Whatever you can raise is worth raising and you might even want to use this as an excuse to train and get fit!

Message from Rabbi Carlos Tapiero - Yom Yerushalaim 2011

Yom_Yerushalaim_Image

Yom Yerushalayim, Jerusalem Day celebrates the city's liberation by the Israel Defense Forces during the 6 Day War 44 years ago. Our Millennial City, the capital of Jewish Civilization since its founding by King David, capital of the First Jewish Commonwealth destroyed by the Babylonians in 586 b.c.e., and of the Second, destroyed by the Romans in 70 c.e., was reunified and restored to the sovereignty of the Jewish State.

Lag Ba Omer -

Mourning, Hope and National Redemption

Rabbi Akiva, the greatest rabbi of the Mishnah and spiritual leader of the Jewish people, knew that the end of his life was near. The great revolt of Bar Kochvah - "son of the Star", now called Bar Koziba, "the son of deception" - had failed, resulting in the brutal deaths of more than half a million Jews in the Land of Israel and persecution of the Jewish People throughout the length and breadth of the Roman Empire.

Israel's 63rd Independence Day

In the 6 decades of Israel's independence, any Jew who wants to live here is automatically entitled to do so. Through the work of our National Institutions - the Jewish Agency and the World Zionist Organization - we have grown used to the fact that any Jew, after a short bureaucratic procedure, is enrolled as citizen and joins his or her destiny with that of the Jewish State.
